Sales of world laser industry showcase a great growth in 2005 reaching to USD 5.58 billion. In 2006, the number was USD 5.98 billion and USD 6.2 billion in 2007. Industrialized nations have been vigorously engaged in R&D in laser industry as to take the most advanced information technology in the world of competition. What they had done has positively pushed world laser industry into the next stage.
Sales of laser industry

The fast growth in China 's laser industry has been on a plateau. From 1999 to 2006, the sales of laser market has reached to RMB 1.413 billion, 1.911 billion, 3.24 billion, 2.862 billion, 3.689 billion, 4.232 billion, 4.775 billion and 5.5 billion respectively. From laser industry as whole, laser material processing market gained momentum years to come and shared more percentage in China 's laser industry.
Laser industry has experienced a leapfrogging development for four decades based on laser system which has been widely applied in production, telecommunication, information process, public health, military affairs, cultural education and other areas. It contributed more for national economy and social development while it is supposed to be on the high-ground.

A. Consuming market for laser solution is large. The potential in laser processing market in China has been augmented as global basis with its entry into WTO. Investors home and broad are vying for this market.
B. Expansion of laser market channel. In 2000, WuHan HuaGong Laser Engineering Co.,Ltd. purchased ACS. With ACS networks worldwide, a whole spectrum of digital cutting equipment such as laser cutting and plasma cutting machine that have exported to America , Australia , New Zealand and Turkey .
C. Plucked up with high-tech. Lockheed Martin has purchased Coherent Technologies, a remote sensing system supplier, to sharpen its edge.
D. Calling for professionalism. Coherent sold out Medical-Applied Laser Group to ESC/Sharplan while purchased number of companies in industrial laser products for R&D and products development in this sector.
3. M&A trend in China 's laser equipment
The rosy picture for laser equipment industry as newly established sector has number of reason as followed:
A. Outpouring concern from state and all level of working parts. Planning stage, approval and state coffer have been implemented. The major entities for laser project have shifting from universities and research department to corporations. This move set the companies on the major player for proprietary product and technology upgrade.
B. Laser technology has been widely accepted by domestic manufacturers who have added values to their products. It will tailor solutions to the market as nimble player.
C. Domestic industrial laser parts manufacturers showing their own savvies have emerged. There existed four laser processing equipment production belts: Central China, Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta and Bohai Sea area.
D. Famous world producer of laser processing equipment has put factory in China . Many of them have been appeared as joint venture that brought international competition into China .
E. Domestic laser equipment have been applied into market, among others, high power axial flow CO2 laser, Round-metal-resonator CO2 Laser with medium and small power, diode pumped laser, fiber laser, DPL and high power diode laser module have been showing on the market and created environment for laser processing industry adding more value in their products.
There is no sign of drastic change in integration of laser processing industry in the short term. On the other hand, consolidation will harness the synergies while bring the market on the right track with fast development through knocking out medium and small companies.
